Breast Reduction

Huge breasts may be a huge problem both from aesthetic as well as medical point of view. Big and heavy breasts cause chronic neck and upper back pain. It becomes difficult to find properly fitting clothes. The breast folds remain moist and cause skin problems. Heavy breasts may themselves be painful at times. They can cause social embarrassment.

Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is also called reduction mammoplasty. It is a surgical procedure in which the extra breast tissue, skin and fat is removed and the breasts are reshaped. Usually this surgery is done to relieve medical symptoms rather than for aesthetic reasons.

Breast reduction may also be combined with liposuction procedure to enhance the figure.

To remove the extra tissue incisions are placed on the breast itself (like in the picture below). The part of the incision around the areola is well hidden but the vertical incision is visible. This incision hides well under the brassier. Some times an additional incision is required in the breast fold. The type of procedure and incision depends on the breast size.

The surgery is performed under General Anesthesia and you will be asleep through out the procedure.

After the Surgery

Immediately after the surgery the patient is shifted to the ward. Stay at the hospital is required for a day for observation. During the surgery dressings are placed and supportive bra is applied, these are removed after 3-5 days. Breast support Bra are required thereafter.  All the Post-Operative Care instructions will be explained to you and a Post-Operative Care & Instruction Sheet will be given at the time of discharge.
