Microdermabrasion

Introduction to Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion aka 'Skin Polishing' is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses a spray of micro-crystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveals younger, healthier-looking skin. A minimally abrasive instrument is used to gently sand your skin, removing the thicker, uneven outer layer.

It is quick, effective and without any downtime.

At Kalpana Aesthetics we evaluate the entire face as a whole and suggest the best customized treatment plan for you.

How is Microdermabrasion procedure done

Microdermabrasion is an out-patient procedure performed at our Clinic. You are asked to lay back comfortably on the treatment chair while a trained assistant cleans your face.

During treatment, the clinician directs a stream of tiny ("micro") aluminum oxide crystals through a hand piece that is placed against the skin. These dermabrasion crystals exfoliate the skin, and the mild suction created by the microdermabrasion system removes the skin debris and crystals.

The microdermabrasion procedure exfoliates dead cells from the skin’s surface. While it is not painful, the treatment can cause a slight warming sensation as the abrasive microdermabrasion crystals gently slough away old and damaged layers of skin.

F.A.Q.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion ?

  • Improve age spots and black heads.
  • Improve hyperpigmentation (patches of darkened skin) and balance skin tones.
  • Exfoliate your skin, resulting in a refreshed appearance.
  • Lessen the appearance of stretch marks.
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Reduce or eliminate enlarged pores.
  • Treat acne and the scars left by acne.

Microdermabrasion helps to thicken collagen in the dermis layer of the skin, which results in a smoother, tighter and younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that's abundant when you're a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin.

Who are the best candidates ?

An ideal candidate for microdermabrasion treatment is in good physical health, understands the procedure, and has realistic expectations of the outcome. You are likely to be pleased with the results of microdermabrasion if your goal is to alleviate acne scars, smooth wrinkles, improve skin texture, eliminate age spots, or reduce the effects of sun damage.

When will i see the results ?

Right from the first treatment microdermabrasion helps produce thicker, healthier skin layers; multiple treatments are vital because they encourage the production of a new layer of skin cells that contains higher levels of collagen and elastin. Both of these components are essential for vibrant, healthy skin, and they will further improve your complexion and the overall appearance of your skin. Approximately five to twelve treatments spaced two to three weeks apart are usually necessary to reap full microdermabrasion benefits.

Is it safe? Are there any risks involved ?

Our trained team of medical and nursing professionals have performed many procedures. We give utmost importance to patient safety. Since it uses 'microcrystals' and suction apparatus, care has to taken near eyes and mouth region. An inexperienced health care provider may end up hurting your eyes. in case of serious injury further treatment with the respective specialty may be necessary.

In some people microdermabrasion treatment can cause pigmentation changes in the skin. Some types of skin may become hyper pigmented and will require to be further treated with cream or ointment. Others may develop hypopigmented spots which are lighter than the surrounding skin.

In some acne prone individuals acne can flare up after the treatment. Some people may not have expected results because of resistant skin.

What are After-Procedure instructions and precautions ?

There is no down time or recovery period following microdermabrasion. The treated skin may be pink after the treatment, but this will usually fade within a few hours. After your treatments, your health care provider may recommend a special moisturizer or facial product to enhance and prolong your result. You'll need to avoid the sun for several months after microdermabrasion procedure since your new skin will be fragile. Proper use of sunscreen and following after care instructions given to you at the time of treatment is of utmost importance.
